Why OMTEC industrial mini-PCs are the right choice

In modern industrial manufacturing and automation, space is a precious commodity. A conventional tower PC is often too bulky and prone to failure. Our industrial mini-PCs and rugged mini-PCs are the answer to these challenges. They combine the computing power of a desktop system with a form factor barely larger than a paperback book.

Robust technology for continuous 24/7 operation

Unlike consumer hardware, our systems are designed for continuous operation. At their core is often a fanless cooling concept. Special housing designs with cooling fins dissipate heat directly to the outside. This prevents dust, oil mist, or dirt from entering the housing – a crucial factor for operational reliability in production.

The advantages of our compact embedded solutions at a glance:

  • Vibration and shock resistance: Thanks to SSD storage and permanently soldered components, ideal for use in machines or vehicles.
  • Extended temperature range: Many models operate reliably in environments from -20°C to +60°C (optionally even up to +70°C).
  • Multiple mounting options: Space-saving integration via DIN rail clip, VESA mount behind the monitor or direct wall mounting.
  • Long-term availability: We guarantee component availability for our industrial series for up to 10 years – planning security for your projects.

Application areas: Where rugged mini-PCs make the difference

Our compact systems can be found in a wide variety of applications worldwide:

  1. Edge Computing & IoT: Preprocessing of sensor data directly at the machine.
  2. Digital Signage: Reliable players for information systems in public spaces or factories.
  3. Smart City & Logistics: Control units in parcel lockers or traffic control centers.
  4. DIN rail PCs: Direct integration into the control cabinet for controlling PLC environments.

FAQ – Industrial mini-PCs and compact rugged systems

Compact computing power for professional applications: Learn all about the advantages, mounting options and technical reliability of our industrial mini-PC solutions.

What is the main advantage of an industrial mini-PC over a desktop PC?
The main advantage lies in the combination of compact design, robustness, and long-term availability. Industrial mini-PCs are designed for continuous 24/7 operation, are fanless, and thanks to DIN rail or VESA mounting, fit into the smallest niches or control cabinets where standard PCs would not fit or would quickly fail due to dust.
Can industrial mini-PCs be mounted on a DIN rail?
Yes, most of our compact systems support DIN rail mounting. This is the standard for integration into industrial control cabinets. Alternatively, we offer wall mounts or VESA mounts to attach the PC directly behind a monitor.
How does cooling work in a fanless mini-PC?
Fanless mini-PCs use the case itself as a heat sink. Internal heat pipes transfer heat from the CPU directly to the external aluminum cooling fins. This makes the system completely silent, maintenance-free, and prevents dust from being drawn into the case.
Are rugged mini-PCs suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, provided they have a corresponding IP protection rating (e.g., IP65 for protection against water jets). Our rugged mini-PCs also offer an extended temperature range (often from -20°C to +60°C) and are resistant to shocks and vibrations, making them ideal for mobile applications or outdoor terminal solutions.
What interfaces do industrial mini-PCs offer?
Despite their small size, they feature specific industrial interfaces such as serial ports (RS232/422/485), multiple Gigabit LAN ports (often with PoE support), digital inputs/outputs (GPIO) and wide-range voltage inputs (e.g. 9-36V DC) for direct connection to machine networks.
How long will these systems be available?
Unlike consumer PCs, which often disappear from the market after 12 months, our industrial models are typically available for 5 to 8 years. This saves you significant costs for recertifying your software or machine control systems.
