The Intel Core 2 processors are 64-bit microprocessors of the 2nd generation. The mass market version with 2 processor cores is called Core 2 Duo. Due to drastically shortened pipeline technology and improved computing units, the Core 2 Duo provide up to 40% more performance at the same clock frequency. In addition, the power-saving functions of the predecessors Pentium M and Intel Core have been integrated.
The Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 is a dual-core processor for mid-range notebooks. It belongs to the Penryn series and is manufactured in 45nm. The T9400 is similarly clocked but offers a higher FSB.
The performance of the Core 2 Duo T9300 should be sufficient for most games in 2009 (only GTA 4 clearly benefits from more processor cores or a higher clock speed). The old Core 2 Quad Q9000 is also beaten in most applications, as it is clocked at only 2.0 GHz.
The Penryn (Montevina Update) core offers 2 integer units, 1 floating point unit, 1 load unit and 1 store unit in a 14-stage pipeline. With Wide Dynamic Execution technology, the core can execute up to four full instructions simultaneously.
